The CALMet VI Conference was held in Boulder Colorado 12 – 16 July 2004. CALMet VI was an International Conference on Computer-Aided Learning and Distance Learning in Meteorology and Hydrology. There were 58 attendees from 15 different countries at the conference.
The conference theme reinvented the acronym CAL, which has stood for Computer-Aided Learning, to a broader conception: Creating Activities for Learning. Following this theme the conference featured four keynote speakers, all of whom were educators and trainers. The four keynote speakers and the titles of their presentations were:
Dr. John Cahir (see photo), former Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education and Professor of Meteorology, Pennsylvania State University , A report on Applying Technology to Teaching and Learning at a Large Research University
The conference attendees were able to attend eight paper sessions covering 26 conference papers. There were additionally seven different “hands-on” workshops in which participants were able to learn skills in using CAL tools and techniques.
The conference was not all work. Social events included a trip on 19 th Century narrow gauge railroad train and a visit to a Colorado silver mine. A short field trip to the site of the Lawn Lake dam failure in Rocky Mountain National Park preceded the conference dinner.

Conference participants evaluated the conference as being more then they expected and indicated that they would definitely attend another CALMet Conference.
